Thank you Cheryl for your support. I have to remain strong and I will not tell anyone till I am ready. I have told 3 people that I trust besides my friends here. I know that when the schedule comes out for December they will see "sick leave" after my name for 3wks and they will probably start asking more but I'm just going to say I'm taking time off or none of your business. There are very few that I trust at work. Anyway, thanks for the support and sorry you went thru all that.

Thanks Marcia for your support. My husband walked all over me in my marriage, I spent years digging myself out of that so although I have my times of weakness, I am not going to allow anyone to take my power again.
I often need redirection but I do come around and "see the light" after venting.
Thanks,
Alice

Alice as medical professionals we have been taught about confidentiality for more years then I care to remember!  However, now with HIPAA laws this information cannot be released to anyone unless it is for necessary reasons such as care of the patient or billing issues.  Me thinks you have a valid complaint and are NOT just spouting off and venting.  I would ask to speak to the manager of HR and explain situation to them.  IF you don't get anyplace, go higher in the organization if you need to.  This is a breech of confidentiality and HIPAA.
I don't usually get all freaked out about things like this because my life is an open book, but I would be furious if I asked someone to keep it confidential and they blabbed.  This persons job could be in jeparody.

Thanks Debbie,
This happened with another co-worker before...she applied for disability and HR sent her someone else's info on a form. She tried to accuse them of HIPAA violation on behalf of the other person's info getting sent out but it was squelched. HR said there was no infraction. I will check with HR tomorrow to see what they've done about my case. Thanks,
Alice

Hi Alice,

Please don't feel the need to "apologize for overreacting".  I feel that your reaction was completely normal and appropriate.  We all have the right to our privacy.  The HR person should not have told anyone that you were having surgery.  She could have told anyone needing to know about your time off that it was for "personal reasons" with no explanation and that due to HIPPA laws it would be a violation to discuss it with other people.  I know others here have mentioned HIPPA violations.

GRRR...It seems like people are so nosey now days. They ask questions and discuss things that are inappropriate and personal.  I am so glad I'm not in the workplace anymore.

Sending hugs to you, Paulette

(((alice))) i agree with what the rest have told you...also the hippa laws have been broken by them and you could sue probably if you wanted to...jobs should be taken away from those that blabbed to others!!!

don't feel bad about posting this and going on and on about it...we are here to help you no matter what!!

hugs

Thanks Judy and Paulette,
I tried to contact HR today to get some answers...I also contacted one of my Union sisters to get her input. Either way HR and the people blabbing will be held accountable.
Thanks for your support. I've had to go up against management before and they always come out squeeky clean.
